It is commonplace to hear people talking about buying art as a financial commitment, but should this be the true reason we buy art? Big auction houses and bigger galleries encourage this particular kind of thinking because it will help them to sell art to the upper crust of contemporary society. They treat art more like a investment than what it truly is, which is loveliness to be enjoyed by anyone.
The fact of the matter is, there are more artists and works of art than there are spaces on a gallery wall. This means that the galleries have to be very picky about the works they take in, because they are in the business of making money by representing artists whose work will sell quickly.
If you want to buy art and avoid the hassle and outrageous prices of galleries and auction houses, read on! A savings of 50% – 60% awaits you! What you should take away from this article is the simple message that art is meant to be enjoyed by everyone, especially those who own it. If you are buying art as an investment, and you happen to make some money off of it, well done!
However if you do not, make sure to enjoy the art for what it is and ensure that it at least has value because it is beautiful. Browse art online through my virtual gallery and deal with Lloyd Dobson the artist direct on Siesta Key!

My Latest Tropical Beach Themed Oil Paintings
My Latest Tropical Beach Themed Oil Paintings. Born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Independence, Missouri. I studied art in high school and college where I was blessed to win numerous art awards and ribbons. In Missouri I studied under the late artist Andrew Thoman.
In college was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and went to the
west coast to their rookie training camp. In my second year of playing minor league baseball I injured my ankle and being on crutches resumed my passion for painting and studied under California artist Bert Carter. I entered many art shows where I continued to win ribbons for my work, as well as selling oil paintings to hundreds of clients throughout the United States, Canada, the UK and Switzerland.
I was surprised when a friend at college said to me, “I envy you. As an artist you see beauty in everything”. Until then I had not realized that we don’t all see the same thing and that my talent was not just a propensity to create but also a unique way of appreciating what I saw.
It is not just the view, scenery or objects that matter but how, as an artist I am able to perceive and interpret them. I see things that are uplifting and inspiring to me and I capture my vision in my paintings from the subjects I feel a deep connection with.
My paintings shine a spotlight on the beauty of God’s palette that I see and I am always pushing myself to hone and evolve my artistic skills to create art that is fresh, original and a genuine expression of my personal view and connection with my beautiful surroundings.
You can find me and my paintings every Sunday from 8am to 1pm at the Siesta Key Farmers Market in the Village at 5104 Ocean Blvd. Siesta Key, Florida. Come by and say hello. My paintings are shipped FREE to the lower US 48 and Canada.

Things To Do On Siesta Key! Siesta Key is an eight-mile-long barrier island off the coast of Sarasota, Florida, that features a tropical atmosphere such as white sands, and several waterfront hotels, resorts and condos. Siesta Key is a wonderful find, such a great beach, great weather and wonderful people to meet.
Like most of the vacationers to the Key you will definitely want to check out the Siesta Key Beaches including the world famous Siesta Key Public Beach, rated as the 2nd best beach in all of Florida by cable-TV’s “The Travel Channel.” There are over 100 boutiques, cafes, restaurants and bars in the Siesta Key Village. Siesta Key Village is not overly large to navigate by walking. It all lies within a 3 to 4 block area.
Types of Activities:
There are several water sports rental places, several boat tours and fishing charter businesses, Point of Rocks for shore shelling, scuba & snorkeling, gear rentals, kayaking & canoeing, parasailing & paragliding, dolphin & whale watching, fishing charters & tours, water skiing & jet skiing and much more.
Many activities in Siesta Key take place right on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, boating, sailing, beach volleyball, nature walks, swimming, cave exploring, watching street performers, bird watching and wildlife viewing. Siesta Key is home to several state-owned parks, and many offer beach access. These parks are idyllic destinations for picnicking, camping and hiking.
Events:

It goes from 8am to 1pm and most are closing up at 1pm so come early and hangout and listen to the live music!
A super way to spend Sunday morning! Have a tasty breakfast at one of the many restaurant choices in the village. Then visit the market before heading to the beach.
The market is located in the parking lot of the Davidson’s Pharmacy at the 5100 block of Ocean Blvd. The market includes many vendors such as fresh fruits and veggies by Yum Yum Tree, Fouta Spa towels, hand made pottery, Vinsoy hand made candles by Kim Johnson.

After walking the beach come into the Village and check out some of the restaurants, bars and boutiques. One of my favorites is The Hub Baja Grill located at the stop sign. Pan-Latin fare & margaritas are the draws at this festive, tropical-themed eatery with live music.
Another favorite is The Cottage. The staff are friendly, you feel like they could be family. They have a couple of nice sitting options, I.e. front porch to watch the people walking by, inside if it’s too hot and the inner courtyard which has some great island music. The food is above average with some Asian and other influences. Great spot to meet folks.
If late night is your thing then The Beach Club is the place to go for late night dancing and socializing.
My Favorite Sunday “Funday” afternoon schedule is the following:
1) Breakfast sandwich from Alex’s Village Cafe booth at the Siesta Key Farmers Market.

3) Going to The Hub for a great lunch, island live music and adult beverages after leaving the Siesta Key Farmers Market.

How To Preserve Your Vacation Memories
How To Preserve Your Vacation Memories? Our homes are natural storytellers. Their adorned walls, marked-up floors, slept-in sheets all paint a vivid picture about the places we’ve been and the kind of people we are. To say that looks aren’t important, in this case, doesn’t fly. Your space truly serves an extension, not of your appearance, but of your experiences.
So, how do we keep our best memories and experiences alive?
Art, of course. Commissions, more specifically.
What’s a commission? A commissioned work of art is a piece created specifically for you based on your specifications and desires, by Lloyd Dobson Artist from Siesta Key – Sarasota, Florida.
How does it work? It starts with you and your ideas – whether they be extremely detailed, or loose guidelines.
Let’s pretend for a minute. (Say your favorite place in the world is Siesta Key, Florida.)
You traveled there when you were 27. You walked the sugar white sand beach for three weeks with your best friend from college. You unlocked the condo door for the first time and were welcomed by an open view of the aqua Gulf waters that could only be outdone by the green coconut palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze peeking through between you and the beach. You flung your suitcases on the floor and cracked the 2 euro bottle of vino you picked up stared out the window until it was gone.
THOSE are the kind of moments commissioned artworks are capable of capturing.
How does the artist know what to do? You will connect with Lloyd Dobson Artist and facilitate the back and forth to make it as seamless as possible. You’ll work with him and relay details, big or small, that you want included in your piece, along with the feeling you want it to convey and specifics you have in mind like size, color and orientation. All of his artwork is on stretched canvas.
Lloyd Dobson Artist will then give you a timeline and update you with his studio sessions before you receive your final piece.
Why are commissions awesome? They simultaneously “bring you back,” and move forward with you for the rest of your long life. Plus, the artistic flairs of your favorite artist make these types of pieces rich with personality and authentic style.
Have your favorite memory in mind?
Well it is simple to recapture. Send an email to lloyddobsonartist@gmail.com for a FREE quote.
